Fred Delforge gives on the Zicazic blues blog a review of the album "Crazy Old Man" and selects it for being album zicazic of the week in January 21st to 27th, 2019.
"Winner of the 2017 Swiss Blues Challenge, the singer/harmonicist/guitarist Amaury Faivre and the guitar player Yves Staubitz have been knowing each other from a decade. After having created an electric band, they turn toward an acoustic duo format in 2013. Proposing a music in which folk and jazz flavor the blues, the two companions reached the semi-finals at the International Blues Challenge in January, 2018, in Memphis and haven't gone unnoticed in Norway during the European Blues Challenge where they earned tickets to perform at the Sierre Blues Festival, Vallemagia Magic Blues or Cahors Blues Festival. For its first album, Amaury Faivre Duo chose to follow the lead of Keb’ Mo, Eric Bibb or Leadbelly and to propose us a dozen tracks among which we notice a single cover, the famous « Summertime » by Gershwin, that they they appropriated beautifully. Real talented improvisers, Amaury and Yves give a great breath of spontaneity to their songs, superbly enhanced by harmonica parts so that they directly touch your soul with a few Hispanic notes, a large dose of country-blues, and at last a real blues that clearly knows where to go to get there. We appreciate the lucidity of compositions like « Hell On Wheels », « Yearned For You », « Playing Tricks On You », « Catch As Catch Can » or « It's Time For Me », but also the very Stones-like « You Just Can’t Go Wrong », and we will gladly cheer up a duo not only extremely talented, but also full of human warmth and kindness. We already enjoyed them live a lot, it is thrillingly that we welcome them today as recording artists !"
